Certification And The Accreditation

There are two basic theoretical concept of strategic planning Certification and the Accreditation. Certification is a term often used in professional and private sectors to describe a training program that develops and assesses skills in individuals according to commonly accepted industry standards. Although the process of tutor certification has been available for writing centres since 1983, the use of tutor certification in the writing centre community is a more recent development.

On the other hand, accreditation is used to describe an evaluation process often conducted by a program, unit, or entity in higher education. In general, the accreditation process includes a self-study, peer review, site visit, action or judgment from an accrediting organisation, and monitoring and oversight. While a writing centre can be part of an accredited educational institution, the idea of an accreditation process designated specifically for writing centres was first introduced by Law in 1995. Law‘s article opened the door to a far-reaching organisational discussion about writing centre accreditation that climaxed in 1999 with a vote by the National Writing Centre Association‘s Executive Board to discontinue efforts toward becoming an accreditation body for the writing centre community.
